Romans, Thracians... It's all Greek to me: 15mm Ancients

First of all, even though I didn't do much during the challenge, a huge thanks to Curt for organizing this. I had misjudged the amount of work I had to do with my new job, and sadly never found enough time to paint.

Anyway,  I present you a lot of 15mm Ancients for Art de la Guerre. First, 26 Romans from Essex and Old Glory. The Roman mounted officer had been painted before and therefore won't count. Amongst those 26, 22 are legionaries with their shields handpainted. They can be used as allies, or rebellious Romans.

L'officier monte a ete peint auparavant.

Next, we have 6 Sarmatian horsemen, from Forged in battle. Always a treat to paint.

Puis, 6 archers montes venus de Forged in Battle.

Next, 16 hoplites, fron FIB, with LBMS shield decals.

Ajoutons egalement 16 hoplites,

And next, a lot of Thracians, from Forged in battle: 14 skirmishers, 10 of them having shields, with LBMS decals.

And 12 footmen armed with the dreaded romphaia

et 12 mechants avec leur romphaia.

They have been bloodied already last week, and they won! No one messes with the Thracians!

Another long term project finished!

Howdy. Just before leaving for Malta in early June, I managed to finish painting the Romans for my friend. Though I forgot to take pictures of the command bases, I asked him to provide the rest of the Roman camp to take a full picture, with workers, tents and fortifications. Here is the final result, and I'd say I'm proud of it!

Now I can concentrate my efforts on my medieval army and my SAGA warband.  Stay tuned. And besides, I have three batreps to post too.

Do you like the smell of herbs, weed...

-Distinguished members of this Parliament. I, William Pitt the Young, want to denounce the abuses from our prince regent. This past month only, he spent £1000 on perfume...
 - Fiou Fiou Fiou
- ...£1000 on socks...
- Eurgh Eurgh Eurgh
-... and a disgraceful £40 on so-called herbs
- coooooooolllllllll

Not that much done yesterday evening on the painting front. I was more in the basing mood. So I definitely finished the Roman fort by adding some flocking, and then I also finally finished the Roman cavalry with the brown wash and the stone drybrush. Then a dab of grass, and tada! Here they, ready to be sent to their rightful owner in France. I now only have 24 foot and one horse to paint to finish this army.

We don't need no education...

-I have a cunning plan sir
-Baldrick I'm exhausted, so, unless this cunning plan of yours is as warm as a blanket and comforting as a French lady's bosom, I think you can pin it in your Family's cunning plan history book and leave it there until it smells as good as your hat.
-What's a book sir?

There, at last! I finished painting the fort and varnished it yesterday evening. It might look as is if it took me some time to do it, but now I also work on Sunday mornings! Oh the joy of teaching students about to pass their exams. Still, it's easy money for me, so I won't complain, and besides, it'll be over in a month. Now, without any further discussion, here it is: as you can see, I just need to add the flock on the earth parts, and voila.

Getting there

I didn't have time to post yesterday so I'm doing it now. I managed to paint quite efficiently this week-end, and I'd say the Romans horses are almost done. As you can, all that's left are the highlights and the shields. The Roman army is now almost over. Tonight I'll go to the club, and maybe I'll paly a big game of medieval FOG or a game of Ironclads. We'll see.

A  suivre

So many things to do...

Sorry lads, you won't see our friend Blackadder this time. I'm quite busy at the moment, and I prefer writing down "important" things. But don't despair, you might see him again soon, unless you don't want to see my pathetic attempts at British humour. Anyway. During the Easter Week-end, I couldn't paint much. So, I only painted the last parts on my dragoons, and then I prepped 15 Romans horsemen, and 18 longbowmen. The problem is, I still don't know which army to pick for the club comp: Swiss? French Ordonnance? Quite typical, but then, I want to use what I already have, though unpainted...

Of Rest and Romans

You've had three looonnnggg days to rest, and you've received reinforcements. Now Kill! Kill! Kill! And may you drink wine in their skulls tonight! Oh, and don't forget the rumpy bumpy afterwards.

Okayyyy. Sorry not to have you kept updated on my slow progress this week-end, but as you might suspect, I enjoyed the sun with the mini-miss. I still managed to finish the legionaries, though I think I rushed them a bit. Needless to say I really want to finish this army to paint my French.

off with me head?

Oh look, shiny metal toys! They look so pretty. I want more! Now!And Finish them! Tchop tchop!

Well, apart from looking for jobs, I'm still painting, and yes my daughter feels better, already... But for how long. So the Romans are nearing completion: they're now waiting for their decals, the varnishing and the final touch-ups. And then, onto a new French unit.

Itsie teeny weenie updatie

Right. It's been a couple of days without any updates on the blog. Well, it wasn't my fault, for two reasons: First I've been busy sending CV and applications forms, and second, my daughter is sick.. again, though it doesn't seem to be alarming... So, as you can understand, I couldn't really paint and reduce my lead hill. But I really hope to get things going again asap. But, because a post without a pic is not really a post, here is what I could manage on the legionaries: the base colours for the tunics, wood, skin and metal, plus a wash.

Sick eh? It reminds me one day when I woke up early at noon, I wasn't feeling very well. I had to much to drink, I suppose, it couldn't have been the sausages, no, not the sausages... Hmm, so you're daughter must be naughty... Saucy!

On my workbench

Hmmm. I' m now facing two choices: Doing only Romans or beeing weak and paint my  newly arrived French... Well, for once I've been strong. I'll be painting one unit of Romans, and I'll start bits from the French, just to get the feeling, you know ;)

So, First, the Romans: only 4 bases of legionaries remain, so I'll do them. But When Ludo gave them to me, some had their shields already glued on, quite badly I should say, and I couldn't remove them. Darn1. Then, one of them had primed in black, and I don't prime my minis anymore. Darn2. and one of them had a broken pilum, so I drilled in the hand and put a bit of wire. Darn3. Oh, I forgot: they're from the same batch as the others, ie with lots of defaults from the moulds. Darn4...

the black guy already received a layer of chainmail

Then onto my French. I took a blister of AMX10P, the armoured infantry carrier, and based them. No need to clean, they were almost flash-free. Ahhh. at last some good news.

hey, where is the fifth one gone?

Affaires a suivre.

On my signal...

Unleash Hell...There. the six Roman scorpios are now done. I'm pretty happy with the final result, but I warn you, don't take those minis from Eureka:

- The scorpions are not that easy to glue
- most of the minis don't have kneecaps. Nope, their legs are sort of roundish
- some of the arms are stangely sculpted. with fingers going one way and ending another, very long wrists, almost as long as forearms...

Hmm, I seem to be rambling more and more about things. Am I becoming like Fran the Angry Lurker. F*** no, I'm not Irish :)
